SAN ANTONIO makes it 100% RUNNERS TO WINNERS
A dominant performance saw promising three-year-old Snitzel x Bella Sunday (Sunday Silence) gelding, SAN ANTONIO, rewarded with his first career victory.
Rated to perfection by stable jockey, Brendon Davis, the son of Snitzel made every post a winner in the Vale Warren Webb Maiden Handicap at the Gold Coast.
Astute punters recognised his excellent parade resulting in a wave of money coming for the talented gelding who firmed from $5 to $2.60 in betting.
It hasn’t been an easy road for the Sean Andersen trained galloper whose team also deserves a lot of credit for getting the horse in perfect condition.
Starting his career in Sydney with Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, “Tony” as he is affectionately known, looked like he could be a world-beater following two dominant two-year-old trial wins.
However, he was struck down by a nasty virus and subsequently transferred to the care of Peter and Paul Snowden who struggled to get him going.
The patient team of owners at Nxt Level Syndication were not about to give up on a horse that showed so much early talent and it was decided that a complete change of scenery might be the best go for the well-bred gelding.
Upon careful considering, the decision was made to send SAN ANTONIO to the care of budding Gold Coast horseman, Sean Andersen, who would be able to give the horse plenty of time to find his feet in a new environment.
During his first spell in the sunshine state, both trainer and horse went through a learning process; Andersen finding the quirks of the horse and “Tony” learning about his new surroundings.
It was not until a gelding operation and a bit of time in the Gold Coast sun that “Tony” really started to shine.
This prep he has come back a treat and after a hard held trial win, SAN ANTONIO was able to salute for an excited bunch of Nxt Level Syndication owners.
Full credit must go to the group of owners in the horse who have exercised great patience and trust with the team at Nxt Level to get him to where he is.
What made the victory more impressive is the fact that the saddle slipped mid-race making things almost impossible for both the horse and the jockey who was trying to control him.
An excellent bit of horsemanship from ex-NT jockey, Brendan Davis, ensured that the run of bad luck did not continue as he was able to stop the clock at 51.65 on a soft 5 surface.
The win of SAN ANTONIO now adds to the record of NXT LEVEL SYNDICATION who are now 100% WINNERS TO RUNNERS following the dominant two length victory.
After a big confidence building win on the Gold Coast, “Tony” will look to make his way through the grades with a trip to Ipswich and an 1100m class one assignment the probable task.
Starting publicly in early 2020, the Nxt Level stable has slowly started to grow, and “the proof is in the pudding as they say” with 100% of runners who have reached the track already managing to bring our owners to the winner's room!
