Inglis Classic Yearling Sale

NXT LEVEL SYNDICATION Secure Two Cracking Colts.

Nxt Level Syndication have capped off a successful week after we left the Inglis Riverside complex with two cracking colts. Both of them will soon be running in our black and gold silks and you now have the opportunity to be right there with us!

Overall, the Warwick Farm based sale was very strong, but as is always the case with the Inglis Classic Sale, if you do the work and the hard yards, you will reap the rewards!

Nxt Level Syndication did their damage firstly on day two when we purchased lot 333, A first foal out of VILLA SAN MICHELE, an unraced half to two stakes performed gallopers by champion sire, DEEP FIELD. He will be trained by the people’s trainer, PETER MOODY in Victoria after we have teamed up for the first time in what is sure to be a long relationship.

We then waited patiently on the final day to secure lot 664, a beautiful black PIERRO colt out of LIMEROCK LASS who has continually produced winners with three of the four offspring to race already finding the winner’s circle. He will be trained by the renowned duo CIARON MAHER and DAVID EUSTACE.

It was not as simple as the hammer just going down and adding them to our stable. Nxt Level started looking at the catalogue months ago, where we began with 810 programmed lots and whittled our list down to 231 yearlings that matched our pedigree demands.

From there, our team began their inspections on Wednesday morning where they spent four days examining from the muzzle to the tail of each yearling. This was to determine whether their conformation was good enough to match the pedigrees ahead of the sale start on Sunday.

On our first look, we went from 231 horses down to just 69 remaining. 162 didn’t meet our tough conformation checklist that we go through on every horse. We then went back again for a third look, which brought our final list to just 43 horses.

Of those, we requested our vet to meticulously look over every thoroughbred; get X-rays done and check their scope. If there was even the slightest problem with any of the horses, we had to let them go as we know it is hard enough to find winners on the track without giving yourself a disadvantage from the start.

This left us with just 17 horses! Of those 17, we knew that there would be about half that would probably be out of our price range which left us with just 8 or 9 that we thought we were a good chance of securing.

We put a price tag on each horse, and we knew we would not go a cent over what we valued each horse. Afterall, we want to get the best value for money for not only us, but for all of our clients.

As mentioned, the sale was very competitive. In the first book we saw 548 lots sold at 91% with a median price of 100k and lot 313, an Extreme Choice colt out of six-time winning mare, To Dubawi Go, topping the sale at $825,000. In the highway session, we saw 122 lots sold at 90% with the dual top lots reaching $200,000. Overall, from the two sales, we saw almost $73,000,000 spent showing that the racing industry is as strong as ever.

We ended up bidding on eight horses throughout the sale, six of those we were either an underbidder or the direct under bidder. This was incredibly frustrating as a couple of times a bid of $5,000 would have got us the horse however we weren’t going to pay more than what we valued for each individual horse. We knew we had to stick to our guns and hope that some of the people at the sale didn’t do the work that we did and that eventually paid off.

When it came to lot 333, an imposing colt by champion sire, DEEP FIELD out of an unraced Medaglia d’Oro mare, VILLA SAN MICHELE, we thought we might be in luck. One of the sires we really wanted to buy into this sale was DEEP FIELD and the reasons are obvious. DEEP FIELD is a champion 3rd season sire by both winner and earnings, he broke the All-Time Record of individual winners for a second season sire previously held by his own sire Northern Meteor and has had 368 of his progeny to race producing 287 winners (77.0%), earnings of over $42 million, 24 stakes winners, 18 stakes placegetters and he is not done yet.

We spoke to the Yulong, who were the farm looking after him and they told us they were expecting around the 80k or 90k. We valued this colt slightly higher than that so we thought we could be a good chance of securing this colt. There was however, one bit of information they disclosed to us that pricked our ears when we were told he would be sold no matter what, as per the vendors instructions.

When the bidding stopped at just $40,000 with us in control, we couldn’t believe our ears and eyes but we were stoked with our purchase. This figure was some $48,000 below DEEP FIELD’s service fee and we valued him even higher than that.

We know we have already had a number of people from the public get in contact with us about securing a share in this colt. We were quick to get on the phone to PETER MOODY, who also liked the colt and he was very happy to be teaming up with the Nxt Level team for the first time!

We had to wait until what is called the highway session, right at the end of the sales to secure our next lot. While all the other trainers and syndicators had packed up and gone home, we were there waiting for lot 664, a beautiful PIERRO colt with an imposing stance who is out of winning mare, LIMEROCK LASS.

By this late on day three at start of the traditional highway session, most of the big players and big money had gone home and we know from experience that this is the best time to bag a bargain.

As the tables cleared out, we had already had a long conversation with Ron Gilbert, the highly regarded owner of Highgrove Stud who we purchased the horse from. He explained that this horse was originally pegged to be up for sale early on day one but when he was told it would be up in the first three lots, he asked if it could be moved later in the sale.

Traditionally, the first few lots aren’t as strong as punters are still rolling through the door. Ron’s gamble didn’t work particularly well for him as he was placed later in the sale but his loss is our win and we were able to wait around until the very end and get him on the cheap.

We valued this colt at the 100k mark but as most people had either left or already spent their money, we were left with one of the bargains of the sale as the auctioneer cried out “Well ladies and gents, somebody is going to get very lucky as this horse is a syndicators dream.”

We paid just $70,000 for this cracking colt which represents outstanding value for a sire who stands for $110,000 in 2021. As the old saying goes, “good things come to those who wait” and this was the perfect example of that.

Ron was super quick to come up and congratulate us on the magnificent purchase as he rushed out the door, enroute to a plane to take him back to the Darling Downs. Soon after, Ciaron Maher Racing agreed they were keen to train the colt who will certainly bring out his potential.

As the sale wrapped up, we couldn’t be more happy with the two horses that we purchased. Both colts we secured were well below their service fees, both had perfect X-Rays, perfect scopes and brilliant types.

We are awaiting PDS approval for both colts, however for the Pierro colt already has 70% RESERVED and the Deep Field colt has 30% RESERVED.. All major fees including breaking, transport, spelling and agistment paid until the start of April 2022!

To secure your share in either of these horses, please contact Jay at 0422557562 or at jay@nxtlevelsydncation.com . Hurry, as both of these colts will not last long!
